Filler Queen: Plot Twist: did anyone get the joke?!

OK, did anyone out there get the joke???!

When Joey Jay walks into the Werk Room on episode 1 of RuPaul's Drag Race, Season 13 and utters the words, "filler queen", he is referencing Katya's entrance on Season 7. Katya has been very public about her paranoia over hearing a voice from the crowd of queens already in the Werk Room as she makes her historic entrance utter the words, "filler queen" under-breath and spirally Katya into a vortex of self-doubt about her decision to appear on Drag Race. According to Katya she even confronted Violet Chachki several times after the season - whom she believes is the one most-likely to have said it. Violet vehemently denies and Katya admits to the possibility of it being a "voice in her head".

So when Joey Jay walks into the Werk Room dressed in a red body suit and blonde wig and utters "filler queen", he is referencing Katya, now one of the top drag queens in the industry despite humble beginnings.

Perhaps the obscure homage is a prayer of sorts that Joey Jay's career will also rise to such heights as did the first true filler queen, Katya.

Will Joey Jay live up to Katya's legacy?
