The Two Sides of Katya Zamolochikova
I don't have to read endless fan accounts of heart-warming Meet & Greets with Season 7 Super-Star (and Ms. Congeniality) Katya Zamolochikova to know that she has a kind of tender consciousness that allows her to, as one fan put it, "interact and connect with a multitude of people and give each of them a completely different experience and sense of connection to her, so you can tell how truly emotionally intelligent Katya is". Because, reiterating that point, Season 7 Untucked reveals many of her fellow Drag Race contestants considered her their new best friend.
I'm pretty sure Katya is RuPaul's favorite too. From her highly favored confessional edit on Drag Race to RuPaul's comedic "fake-out", coughing out Katya's name at the Season 7 crowning moment, even though she was not in the top 3, to the fact that of all the Drag Race Queens in herstory, only 13 have been recorded and broadcast on RuPaul & Michelle Visage's podcast, What's the Tee? And of that thirteen, only three queens have been invited on the show twice. Those three are Katya, Raven (now RuPaul's personal make-up artist) and Alyssa Edwards (star of her own reality show, Dancing Queen, streaming on Netflix). In one What's the Tee? interview with Katya, she talks so fast, spilling so much juicy and almost illicit tee about her post-drag race sexual exploits, that RuPaul fires out questions like she's on the edge of her chair.
While the one side is Katya, is the stalwart of RuPaul's Best Friend Race, the other side of Katya is a manic whore, overtly promiscuous, obsessed with the dark and macabre, amphetamine addict flaunting her fascination with prostituting herself and hiring foreign hookers. Katya may as well be a Dragula icon, without actually being one. And due to the overwhelming popularity of her YouTube Show with Trixie Mattel, UNHhhh – Katya, despite her lunacy, is pretty much a household name in Drag Culture.
Speaking of - Trixie Mattel is one of the most commercially successful drag queens of all time, running her own make-up company, starring in her own documentary film, and winning All Stars, Season 3. Yet the secret to Trixie's success, is Katya. One can only speculate where Trixie might be if she hadn't hooked herself to Katya in a foray down YouTube lane for the unlikely pairing discovered, on screen, that they share an infectious off-kilter humor, queer people all over the world have come to rely on for their mental health.
Katya was born on May 1, 1982 in Boston, Massachusetts - a Beltane-baby perhaps explains her Dionysian fascination with illicit sexual encounters.
Katya has her Sun in Taurus and Moon in Leo. Leo Moon's crave attention and admiration.
Katya has an exact square between an exalted Venus in Pisces and Neptune in Sagittarius. Aspects between Venus and Neptune are tricky, because they create an other-worldly idealism that can leave ordinary life feeling bland and unfulfilling. Because these two tender planets are squaring, it's an energy that causes struggle. Both Pisces and Neptune reflect the addiction archetype, and the life challenge becomes one of elevating a personal point of view into the spiritual and not becoming fixated with addictions or with feeling sorry for ones-self. Uranus in Sagittarius sextile Mars in Libra makes Katya one who must express her individuality and uniqueness at all costs - and I think we can all agree, she does this well.
